M. Ed. Curriculum and Evaluation


M. Ed. refers to a Masters in education. It is a graduate course offered to students who have completed bachelors in education. Masters in education is a two-year program offered to the graduates. The course is under the Faculty of Education at Tribhuvan University.  The professional and specialize course was revised and implemented in 2009. The course has a variety of specialization within that includes Educational Planning and Management, Curriculum and Evaluation, Nepali Education, Science Education, Mathematics Education, Physical Education, Geography Education, History Education, Political Science Education, English Education, and Nepali Education. One can specialize in any of the above courses. 

What is M. Ed. in Curriculum and Evaluation?

Curriculum, in general, denotes the syllabus and the subjects that comprise a course as a whole. Evaluation means to make a judgment in terms of the standards, quality which can also be said as an assessment. Masters in Education with Curriculum and Evaluation as a specialized course is a course that focuses on maintaining the curriculum or various other subjects and evaluation them whether the results are being met according to the objectives set priorly or not. The curriculum or a subject cannot stay permanent for a longer time. It must be changed with the change in time and with the improvements made by technologies and skilled manpower. This course is a jack of all because it guides the students to get up to date with the curriculum and set it perfectly so that the students studying various subjects can get the complete course structure to meet the market standard. A student of marketing must be creative as well besides having the theoretical knowledge only. In this case, the practical course composition matters a lot for which the students having a degree in curriculum and evaluation can contribute the most because its the course structure that makes the students forward with their personal effort.

M. Ed. in curriculum and evaluation has a scope in present days as the curriculum is one of the most essential topics for personal growth. This also requires an evaluation mechanism to make the set curriculum up to date and environment-friendly with access to the latest technology and availability of resources. The scope of this course is the education field itself. Various planning commission employs the graduates as they can contribute to policy-making and education planning. One can also work as a teacher, trainer, education expert, system analyst and so on. You can grow into an administrator and perform like a changemaker in the field of education. 

Course details

The course has some of the salient features that make the course different from other courses. Here are the major features of this course:

Technique of instruction

Unlike other courses, the methods used in the teaching includes presentations ( paper as well as powerpoint), case analysis, seminars, lectures from the experts, group discussion, demonstration, fieldwork as well as some practical experiences with the formal class session from best mentors team for sure. This not only contributes to the growth of the student but can help them in building proper networking with the experts and trainers of the related fields. This makes a student well prepared for upcoming scenarios where they will be working with the learning. Instruction period

In general, there are 150 teaching days within an academic year excluding the examinations days as per required. The theory paper for 100 marks is covered with almost 1650 lectures given in 5 periods per week whereas the 20 marks paper carries 75 lectures that need to be attended by 3 periods in a week. The course of study guides the student for the practical courses. 


It denotes the practical section of the course of study. Practical is within the course of study for M. Ed. curriculum and evaluation. The students are able to access the activities of colleges, institutions and high school as well to demonstrate their theoretical study. Every student must complete the three activities as a major one like classroom teaching, internship as per allocated and curriculum specialization. The practical course will not affect the formal classes as they are carried after the second year program for six weeks. 

Thesis writing and evaluation

The thesis is a document prepared by the student as a part of their course on the basis of personal research with a major topic related to the course. The students who have successfully completed the first year programs are supposed to write a thesis as a part of their course which needs to be submitted to the respective department. This needs to be done with proper supervision form the Faculty Members of the college. The format and writing ideas will be given by the Department Research Committee. The evaluation section is done on a written as well as a verbal basis.

Attendance and Evaluation System 

70% attendance is a must for every student which has been made 80% as the course adopted the semester system. The academic session is for six months whereas the semester exams are conducted once in every six months. The course is for two years that is 4 semester and practical at the end. One must secure 50% of the full marks in order to pass the exam conducted by the Faculty of Education and the Office of the Dean of Tribhuvan University. 


One must have completed their bachelors in Education in order to attend the master’s program. They must sit for the admission test and secure a seat on a merit list that will be published after conducting the exam by the respective authority. The course can be viewed with reference to the publication of Tribhuvan University.
