BDS: Bachelors of Dental Surgery

What is BDS?

BDS is an abbreviation of Bachelors of Dental Surgery. This is a course for undergraduates related to dental health who are further said to be a dentist who are contacted in order to maintain dental health. The course comprises components like integrated basic medical science, clinical medical science, and clinical dental science. The students are taught to diagnose and treat problems with teeth and tissues in the mouth, along with giving advice and administering care to help prevent future problems. The course is officially for five years that includes a year of internship in order to practice the theories they are taught within the interval of four years.  It is a degree that directly contributes in well being of human beings. It is the recognized degree in the perspective of teeth as teeth have a major function in a human body that regulates the functions of mouth in case of speech.

Objectives

The major objectives of the programs are listed below:

To make the graduates demonstrate the understanding of principles and practice of modem dentistry with an in-depth knowledge of the structure and functions of the human body, normal and in diseases

To make the students participate in immunization and dental health programs and in the health camp

To make the students identify the common dental health problems, treat them and suggest the prevention for further days.

To make people aware about dental hygiene and health sanitation

To provide education to people about oral health and related health issues

To produce capable graduates who can identify medico-legal dental cases and function as required

To develop a holistic approach to the practice of modem dentistry

To make dental education as a matter of concern for everyone

Scope of BDS
